June 6, 2008, the Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Corridor Forum will be held in Kunming. Forum on the eve of the International Division of the Ministry of Commerce on issues related to a reporter's question answered.

1, Q: Please tell us about the establishment of the Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Corridor Forum background.
A: Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Economic Co-operation by the Asian Development Bank (the ADB) launched in 1992 as a sub-regional economic cooperation mechanism, China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam Lancang - Mekong River along the to participate in the six countries. China's Yunnan, Guangxi, is involved in the main provinces of GMS cooperation.
Strengthen the GMS economic corridors development is to accelerate regional cooperation in this region to maximize the economic potential of a strategy. Asian Development Bank in November 2002 issued by "the next 10 years the Strategic Framework for GMS economic cooperation" to the North-South Economic Corridor, East-West Economic Corridor, Southern Economic Corridor is designated as "flagship" project, reflects the economic corridors in the GMS economic cooperation in the special status of and an important role. And along the corridor to play the enthusiasm of local governments to the full and effective participation in GMS cooperation, the existing and future transportation corridors for the further development of economic corridors,forming along the region's economic growth, reduce and eliminate poverty, support and drive along the economic corridor linkage with the overall development of GMS countries is generally a challenge.

In March this year, Premier Wen Jiabao in Vientiane, Laos to attend the Third GMS Summit, he put forward the GMS economic corridor forum to set up the initiative by the other GMS countries and ADB's support and the outcome as an important leading into the meeting of the Universal Declaration. The purpose of the establishment of the Forum is to further promote the transportation corridors and industrial, trade, investment cooperation with the ultimate transformation of the economic corridor, and local governments and enterprises to participate directly in GMS cooperation, exchange of dialogue and provide a platform for sharing information.
 

2, Q: Economic Corridor What is the meaning?
A: 1998, the Eighth Ministerial Meeting of the GMS economic corridors proposed by the concept, its meaning is to the construction of transport corridors and economic development, cooperation between countries and facilitate exchanges.

The development of economic corridors are divided into three phases: construction phase traffic corridors, logistics corridor construction phase, construction phase of the economic corridor.

4, Q: the development of economic corridors What is the purpose?

5, Q: The first GMS economic corridor forum which guests will be invited to attend?
A: The Forum invited guests, including domestic Department of Commerce, National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Industry and Informatization, China National Tourism Administration, the National Federation of Industry and Commerce, the National Development Research Center, and Yunnan, the Guangxi Autonomous Region and other areas of government, business and academia. Foreign guests included the GMS countries in charge of economy and trade, Deputy Prime Minister, ministers and corridors Provinces and autonomous regions along the officials and business representatives, as well as the Asian Development Bank, United Nations Development Program, GMS Business Forum and other international organizations. The number of participants is expected to reach 500.
