KUCHING: Residents of Kuching and its surrounding areas, especially students, are invited to a photo exhibition held in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of China-Asean Dialogue Relationship aptly named ‘20th Anniversary of Asean-China Dialogue Relationship: The Asean-China Photo Exhibition 2011’ at the Sarawak Tourism Complex near the Kuching Waterfront from Oct 11 to 13.

Organised by the Information Department, it exhibition is open daily from 10am to 5pm and visitors to this informative and interesting exhibition will also be given publications from the department.

Deputy Information, Communication and Culture Minister, Senator Datuk Maglin Dennis D’ Cruz will launch the photo exhibition while the Information Department’s Director General, Ibrahim Abdul Rahman will also be present.

Consulate officers from China, Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam here have also been invited to the ceremony.

The exhibition aims to strengthen people to people contact and also to promote understanding and harmonious relationship by publicising Asean’s effort in bridging the gap through visual presentation.

The event is also held in conjunction with the 44th Asean Day celebrations that is celebrated by all Asean member countries to commemorate the establishment of the Asean on Aug 8, 1967.

The department hopes that the celebration would increase the understanding and awareness of the role of Asean in particular to students from higher learning institutions and local communities and to disclose Asean’s political, economic and social cooperation development to Asean’s future leaders.

Meanwhile, in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), a forum on unity in diversity will be held at the campus at Kota Samarahan on Oct 12 at 2pm.

The moderator will be Noorain Aini while the panelists are Dr Ahmad Nizar Yakub and Dr Lucy Sebli Seidelson, from Unimas.

Ahmad Nizar will deliberate on Asean and Regional Security Cooperation while Lucy will touch on Life After 40 years of Asean: Achievements and Challenges.
