ASEAN and China join hands on production capacity

JAKARTA, 13 July 2016 – High-level representatives from ASEAN and China gathered in Jakarta yesterday to attend a meeting to enhance cooperation in production capacity between ASEAN and China.

In a keynote speech at the 2nd High-level Forum on China-ASEAN Production Capacity, ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General for Socio-Cultural Community, H.E. Vongthep Arthakaivalvatee, stressed the positive correlation between ASEAN-China production capacity cooperation and higher labor productivity. He joined other speakers in congratulating ASEAN and China for the growing trade and economic figures which stood at USD 366.5 billion in 2014 and encouraged ASEAN and China to “continue to focus on the people and remain people-centered while furthering the economic and trade developments.”

“After all, economic and social developments and benefits generated from the twin goals of two-way trade and investment of US$1 trillion and US$150 billion respectively by 2020, are generated for the people,” he said.

The Forum was attended by, among others, H.E. Dr. Arief Yahya, Minister of Tourism, Republic of Indonesia; H.E. Xu Bu, Ambassador of China to ASEAN; H.E. Li Jiming, Deputy Secretary-General of the People’s Government of Yunnan Province, China, and Mr. Piyapan Tayanithi, Executive Vice President of Bangkok Bank.

The 2nd High-level Forum on China-ASEAN Production Capacity was organized by the Mission of the People’s Republic of China to ASEAN and attended by more than 200 High-level Delegates from ASEAN and China. The Forum provides a venue for ASEAN and China to explore further cooperation in production capacity in in priority areas such as electric power, automobile, chemical industry, metallurgy, building material, light textile, information communication, engineering, machinery, rail transportation, equipment manufacturing and agriculture.

This event is part of commemorative activities held in ASEAN and China in 2016 to commemorate 25th Anniversary of ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations.
