Ethiopia seeks to promote cooperative relationship with ASEAN

— Ethiopia conveyed its keen interest to promote cooperative relationship with ASEAN and ASEAN Member States in areas of mutual interests. The areas include trade, investment, air linkages and tourism. This message was conveyed by the first Ambassador of the Federal
Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to ASEAN Mr. Arega Hailu Teffera, during the presentation of his Letter of Credence to Secretary-General of ASEAN Le Luong Minh at the ASEAN Secretariat yesterday.

 

Secretary-General Minh congratulated Ambassador Teffera on his assumption of duty as Ethiopia’s Ambassador to ASEAN and welcomed the ideas suggested by Ambassador Tereffa to enhance the concrete cooperation in the areas of mutual interests and benefits.  Secretary-General Minh updated Ambassador Teffera on the establishment of the ASEAN Community and the progress of the implementation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and efforts to further advance its relations with external partners.

Ambassador Teffera stated that Ethiopia attaches importance to ASEAN, which it considers as an influential organisation in the region and beyond. He spoke of the current economic developments in Ethiopia, in which the country aspires to become a regional hub for manufacturing, air transport, tourism, investment destination and diplomacy, among others. He also encouraged ASEAN to further enhance ties with the African Union as well as sub-regional groupings in Africa.
