Egypt seeks to enhance relationship with ASEAN

JAKARTA, 12 May 2017 — Egypt expressed its keen interest to enhance cooperative relationships with ASEAN and ASEAN Member States. This message was conveyed by the new Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to ASEAN Ahmed Amr Ahmed Moawad, during the presentation of his Letter of Credence to Secretary-General of ASEAN Le Luong Minh at the ASEAN Secretariat today.


Secretary-General Minh highlighted the importance of Egypt’s accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation which would pave the way to promoting closer friendly relationship between ASEAN and Egypt. Secretary-General Minh also updated Ambassador Moawad on the progress of ASEAN Community building as envisaged in the ASEAN Community Vision 2025, and ASEAN’s efforts to enhance regional cooperation and integration.

Secretary-General Minh and Ambassador Moawad discussed ways and means to further substantiate relations between ASEAN and Egypt in the areas of mutual interests such as trade, investment, tourism and cultural cooperation. They also exchanged views on promoting people-to-people contacts between ASEAN and Egypt.
