YANGON, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's fishery products export was valued at over 711.7 million U.S. dollars in fiscal year 2017-18 which ended in March, U Hla Kyaw, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation told the parliament Thursday.

The export in 2017-18 was up from 605.8 million dollars in FY 2016-17.

At present, the authorities are exerting efforts in fishery resource conservation as well as sustainable development in the country's fishery sector.

Meanwhile, Myanmar Fishery Federation (MFF) is planning to set up a public company to run livestock breeding and feed processing businesses for the development of the sector.

The MFF is also trying to set up fish and prawn farming zones in cooperation with the region and state governments, while inviting foreign experts to produce value-added products.

Moreover, the MFF is planning to explore new markets and adopt an advanced farming system to enhance the fish and prawn farming sector.
