By:Xinhua    Update:2017-03-10
Cambodia had exported 46,387 tons of milled rice to China in the first two months of 2017, up 127 percent over the same period last year, according to a government report released on Friday.

China is the top buyer of Cambodian rice, followed by France, Poland, Britain and the Netherlands, said the report compiled by the Secretariat of One Window Service for Rice Export.

Agriculture Ministry undersecretary of state Hean Vanhan said in January that Cambodia saw China as a main market for its rice, and the Southeast Asian country expected to sell some 200,000 tons of its milled rice to China in 2017.

According to the report, Cambodia had exported a total of 109,551 tons of milled rice to 46 countries and regions during the January-February period this year, up 14.2 percent over the same period last year.

Cambodia is an agrarian country with approximately 80 percent of the population being farmers. The country produces over 9 million tons of paddy rice per annum, according to the Agriculture Ministry.
