Myanmar-Thailand border trade exceeds 1.3 bln USD in FY 2017-18

YANGON, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Border trade between Myanmar and Thailand reached 1.33 billion U.S. dollars as of March 2 in present 2017-2018 fiscal year, up 90 million U.S. dollars compared to the same period in last FY 2016-2017, the official Global New Light of Myanmar reported Thursday.
 

In accordance with the figures from Myanmar's Commerce Ministry, the country's exports to Thailand via border gates totaled over 393 million U.S. dollars while its import value was 941.7 million U.S. dollars during the period.

Myawady border gate topped the trade with 816 million U.S. dollars, followed by Myeik with 241 million U.S. dollars and Kawthoung with 179 million U.S. dollars.

The country trades with neighboring Thailand via seven border gates -- Tachilek, Myawady, Kawthoung, Myeik, Hteekhee, Mawtaung and Maese gates.

The country mainly exports fishery products including fish, crabs and shrimps as well as agricultural products to Thailand while cosmetics, machinery, food products and agricultural equipment are imported from Thailand.

The total border trade value of the country was 7.592 billion U.S. dollars, in which exports shared with 4.99 billion U.S. dollars while import took 2.60 billion U.S. dollars as of March 2 in present FY 2017-2018.

Meanwhile, Myanmar is conducting border trade with neighboring India, China and Bangladesh via a total of 16 border checkpoints.
