China to establish 33 new cross-border e-commerce pilot zones

China's State Council approved a plan to set up cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zones in 33 cities and regions, including Langfang in Hebei province and Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan province, according to Chinese central government's official website, www.gov.cn, on Thursday.

China continues the speedy expansion of cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zones since the establishment of the first one in 2015. Up to now, the number of the comprehensive pilot zones for cross-border e-commerce has reached more than 100.

The new comprehensive pilot zones are expected to leverage the positive role of cross-border e-commerce in facilitating the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries and promoting industrial digital development and promote the optimization and upgrading of foreign trade.

Now, vigorously developing cross-border e-commerce has become an important path for China to stabilize foreign trade.

The import and export scale of China's cross-border e-commerce reached 1.92 trillion yuan in 2021, up 18.6 percent year on year and accounting for 4.9 percent of China's total foreign trade, Chinanews.com reported, quoting official data.

At the same time, the number of China's overseas warehouses has exceeded 2000, with a total area of over 16 million square meters covering the whole world.
