China-Vietnam hydro-power station generates over 1.1 bln kWh of power in past 10 years in Vietnam

The Seo Chong Ho Hydropower Project jointly funded by China and Vietnam in north Vietnam marked its 10th anniversary of operation on Wednesday and has produced electricity totaling 1.186 billion kilowatt hours, contributing its share in supporting local economic development and improving people's livelihood, China News Service reported.

Located in Lao Cai Province of Northwest mountainous region of Vietnam, the project is the first foreign-invested hydropower project in Vietnam and also the highest water head horizontal unit in Southeast Asia, with the total water head of power generation reaching 863.6 meters.

The power station was jointly funded and constructed by China South Power Grid Yunnan International Co., Ltd. and Vietnam Electricity Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC), and was officially put into operation on December 28, 2012.

The Seo Chong Ho Hydropower Station Phase II Expansion Project began construction on June 29, 2021, and was put into operation on June 28, 2022, increasing the annual power generation by about 12 percent.
