Indonesia develops new destinations to attract foreign tourists

By:Xinhua    Update:2016-05-27
JAKARTA, April 13 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government is developing 10 places as new tourist destinations across the archipelago, a minister said here on Wednesday.
Indonesian Tourism Minister Arief Yahya has ordered local authorities to accelerate development of the facilities at the destinations, such as Lake Toba in North Sumatra, Borobudur temple in Central Java, and a number of underwater spots in the eastern part of the country.
"One critical factor of this acceleration effort is the formation of integrated or single management," he said at his office.
The move was expected to increase the government earnings by up to 240 trillion rupiah (some 18.328 billion U.S. dollars) and create over 13 million jobs in the next three years, he said.
Indonesia expects 20 million foreign holiday makers coming into the country in 2019. Last year, 10.41 million foreign tourists visited the country, exceeding the target of 10 million people, according to the statistics agency.
