PHNOM PENH, July 28 -- Cambodia had attracted approximately 19.2 billion U.S. dollars in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from 1994 to 2014, according to the first-ever FDI survey result released on Thursday.

The result showed that the amount of FDI had been mainly injected into manufacturing sector (24 percent), real estate (15 percent), agriculture (14 percent), financial sector (12 percent), energy (11 percent), and services, accommodation and food (11 percent).

Jointly conducted by the National Bank of Cambodia and the National Institute of Statistics, the survey found that Asian countries accounted for nearly 90 percent of the total FDI in Cambodia.

"China was the largest investor sharing about 44 percent of the total FDI at the end of 2014," the survey said.

The second largest investors were ASEAN member countries which represented an approximate proportion of 22 percent, of which, there were no investments from Laos and Myanmar to Cambodia, it added.

South Korea and Japan were among the top Asian countries investing in Cambodia, as European countries shared their investment proportion about 7 percent of the total FDI.

Neav Chanthana, deputy governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, said it was the first time that the country conducted the survey on FDI inflow to Cambodia.

"The result will be used as a critical input for strengthening the quality of FDI statistics, a main component of the balance of payments, which reflects the situation of Cambodia's international investments in response to the increasing demands by data users, including the government, financial institutions, researchers and investors," she said during the launching ceremony of the survey result.
