Indonesian economy grows 5.01 pct in Q1

Indonesian economy expanded 5.01 percent in the first quarter year on year, as consumption, investment and export picked up amid better spending of development budget, the national statistics bureau said here on Friday.

That compares with the 4.92-percent annual growth in the same period last year.

Inflation had been in check of 1.19 percent (quarter to quarter) from January to March period in the country home to over 250 million people, said Kecuk Suhariyanto, head of the bureau.

Consumption contributed over 55 percent to the gross domestic product growth.
