Nearly 200 Vietnamese bank officers were prosecuted in the 2011-16 period, many of whom have been brought to court, according to Vietnam's central bank on Thursday.

At the state-run Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development alone, 122 officers were prosecuted.

Three clerks in the bank's transaction bureaus in Hanoi were prosecuted for appropriating assets and gambling. In 2012, one clerk was sentenced to death, and two others received life sentences, mainly for appropriating a total of more than 45.8 billion Vietnamese dong (2 million U.S. dollars).

According to the central bank's data, bad debts in Vietnamese banks dropped to 2.46 percent of loans by the end of November 2016 from 4.83 percent in December 2014.
