China took 57.3 percent of global orders for new ships in the first 11 months, ranking the first in the world, reported Shanghai Securities News quoting data from Clarkson Research Service, a world-leading shipping intelligence provider.

During the period, the capacity of Chinese shipyards' global new ship orders totaled 40.963 million deadweight tonnes (DWTs).

From January to November, the order intake of Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., a leading shipbuilder in China, jumped 57.3 percent to over 4.38 million DWTs, ranking the fourth globally.

Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. under China State Shipbuilding Corporation won orders of 3.36 million DWTs in the first 11 months, which was partially contributed by the order signed in November with the Belgian shipyard Bocimar N.V. requiring for 10 bulk carriers of 210,000 DWTs. The company ranked the sixth among global shipbuilders in terms of new orders.
