Cambodian, Chinese diplomats exchange views on bilateral ties, ASEAN-China relations

PHNOM PENH, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn met with Jakarta-based Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN Xu Bu here on Friday, discussing Cambodia-China ties and ASEAN-China relations, a Cambodian official said.

Both sides highly valued the exchange of visits by the two countries' top leaders last year, saying that the historic visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Cambodia in October had elevated the bilateral relationship to a new high level and had contributed to enhancing peace in the region, said Foreign Ministry Undersecretary of State Kan Pharidh.

For the ASEAN-China relations, he said that the two sides agreed that the strategic partnership between ASEAN and China was crucial to maintain peace, stability and development in the region.

According to Pharidh, they also exchanged views on regional and international matters, especially the issues of terrorism and extremist Islamic groups.

ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
